Beyond the Mortgages: 2024 AB Cares Recap

Some companies are just about the mortgages. But at Atlantic Bay? We’re all about the lifelong relationship.

We find it incredibly rewarding to build lasting connections with families like yours and to give back to the communities that we’ve called home since 1996.

Putting people first is at the heart of everything we do. With AB Cares, our incredible team members can share their passions and ideas to spark real change wherever they call home. And when our team gets inspired? They roll up their sleeves and get to work.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen the impact of our efforts take flight. Our AB Cares Global Committee donated to 65 organizations, and through Feeding America, we’ve donated more than 50,000 meals to families facing hunger during the holidays and beyond.

2024 was a rewarding year of giving back and coming together. So here are just a few of the ways the Atlantic Bay team has made a difference beyond the mortgages...

Roc Solid Foundation

Roc-Solid

All the way back in 2018, we began our partnership with the Roc Solid Foundation. With every loan we close, we proudly support Roc Solid’s mission to bring hope to kids and families fighting cancer.

Roc Solid believes that play defeats cancer, because when kids are playing, cancer is the last thing on their minds.

Over the past six years of our partnership, we’ve proudly provided dozens of outdoor playsets and hundreds of Ready Bags for kids facing overnight hospital stays while battling cancer. It has been a true joy for our team to sponsor multiple Roc Solid events.

In 2024, team members from across our footprint came together for various playset builds, including one for Logan, a brave 7-year-old in Richmond who is currently fighting leukemia.

Watching the transformation of the playset—complete with swings, climbing wall, and a slide—has been incredible. It’s heartwarming to see how this special space brings joy and provides a safe haven for children like Logan to play during their treatment. Be sure to keep an eye on Roc Solid’s official website for more opportunities to support their mission and participate in playset builds in your community throughout 2025!

Week of Service

AB-Cares-Newsroom Week-of-Service-2024

Back in May, 200+ members of the Atlantic Bay team took to their communities for the 2024 Week of Service, dedicating special time and efforts – totaling more than 500 volunteer hours – to support 30+ local charities, nonprofits, and organizations.

Sponsored by AB Cares, this annual initiative allows our team members to utilize their paid volunteer hours to give back in meaningful ways, extending our commitment beyond just your typical mortgages and loans. Joining the Atlantic Bay family opens doors to various opportunities to positively impact families in states around the country.

This year, Daniel Baxley ventured out to Carolanne Farms Neighborhood Park along the Elizabeth River in Virginia Beach to clean up trash and litter. “It was great seeing the Atlantic Bay team come together and remove 63 lbs. of trash!” shared Daniel on his experience.

“We enjoy giving back throughout the year, however, the Week of Service brings another level of energy and service.”

Golf Fore Gratitude

We were also fortunate to host our seventh annual Golf Fore Gratitude tournament at the Virginia Beach National Golf Course. This event aimed to raise funds for organizations that hold special significance to the Atlantic Bay family. All net proceeds from the tournament were donated to Roc Solid and Connect With a Wish, a Virginia Beach-based organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of youth in the foster care system throughout Hampton Roads.

Team members, industry partners, and friends came together to hit the green for seven hours of camaraderie and, of course, a little friendly competition.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and sponsored this wonderful event. Your support always makes a difference, and we look forward to seeing you on the links next year!

Hurricane Relief

AB-Cares-Newsroom Hurricane

When disaster strikes, we rise up as a community. And unfortunately, disaster struck earlier this year when much of the Southeastern United States was affected by tropical storms and hurricanes. In fact, Hurricane Helene was the strongest hurricane on record to strike Florida’s Big Bend region, a place we’ve come to know well.

But in the midst of tragedy, hope will always shine through. Atlantic Bay team members were quick to support those impacted by Hurricane Helene, which included some of their own coworkers. We doubled any donation to support those affected by such a horrendous event. “We’ve had a lot of our people reach out, as we would expect because our team is so giving,” stated our CEO, Brian Holland.

“Thanks so much for always being caring. Again, that’s why it’s our number one Core Value.”

What a way to demonstrate that "We Genuinely Care." Thank you for everyone’s outpouring of generosity!

Super Bowl Squares

Much like how the Kansas City Chiefs have made taking home the Lombardi Trophy an annual tradition, AB Cares once again held a Super Bowl Squares fundraiser in February.

Fifty percent of the proceeds were donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, Central Alabama, and Western Pennsylvania.

The Civic 50

We’d also like to once again express our gratitude to Points of Light, the largest nonprofit organization specifically dedicated to increasing volunteer service around the globe, for honoring our team as a Hampton Roads Civic 50 recipient. It’s truly inspiring to be recognized alongside 49 other local companies and institutions committed to prioritizing people and putting communities first.

This acknowledgment really goes a long way; it inspires us to keep making a positive impact in the neighborhoods we call home—one family and one home at a time.

On To 2025

So, what’s next for AB Cares and the rest of our team? Well, 2024 isn’t over just yet!

We’re excited to share that for the 23rd year in a row, we’ll be participating in the Senior Wish List program. This annual initiative gives us the wonderful opportunity to sponsor gifts for senior citizens in our local communities, spreading some joyful warmth during the holiday season.

But now, as we look forward to the future, we remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and support our neighbors—one home, one family, and one act of kindness at a time. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we’ll see you in 2025!
